Project Breif

The Longitudinal studies at SKAN RT requires motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as field data collectors. As a field data collector, you will be responsible for data collection and community engagement on various research projects.


 
Job description/responsibilities
  • Collect data from participants recruited in longitudinal studies (baseline, follow up).
  • Carry out measurements like blood pressure, height, weight, and waist circumference.
  • Use approved data collection tools (electronic or paper based) and ensure confidentiality of the data and privacy of the respondents.
  • Share progress of data collection activities on daily basis and communicate any changes in data collection plan.
  • Liaise with key community members, stakeholders, frontline health workers and government health functionaries.
  • Regularly visit the study participants households for follow ups.
  • Attend induction and on-the-job trainings.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, visit and interact with communities and government health functionaries.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Educational qualification

The ideal Field data collector should have:

Essential

  • Masters / bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, sociology, anthropology and related fields.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data collection and interview techniques
  • Proficiency in Kannada and conversational English with good interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, excel, PowerPoint)

Desirable

  • Master's in social work (MSW)/ PSW/ Masters in Psychology/ Sociology/ Anthropology, or related fields.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in field work and use of data collection tools in field-based projects
  • Those residing Bengaluru are preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, excel, PowerPoint)

PhD Ideally in computational biology, bioinformatics, or biostatistics.

 
Research Experience
  • Applicants should have at least one-year postdoctoral research experience with proven track record in terms of publications in academia and presentations in conferences.
  • Applicants from industry are invited and they must be able to describe their research impact and their desire to work in a non-profit organization, in their cover letter.
  • Your experience will be positively weighed in during the application process.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency in a programming especially in Python.
  • Statistical data analysis environments such as in R is highly preferred.
  • Version control systems such as git is essential.
  • Work with HPC environments, batch submission systems (Slurm, LSF, etc.)
  • Knowledge of linux or related operating system.
  • Workflow managers like nextflow and snakemake.
  • Application of statistical tools or must have designing of bespoke statistics or other machine learning methods in sequencing analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge on the computational side of bioinformatics, in order to liaise with the IT infrastructure is essential.
